Anthony Beevor
Through his bestselling popular history books, Anthony Beevor has given us new insight into important battles of the era of the Second World War. Important books are Stalingrad about the long and ferocious battle for control of central Russia, Berlin: the Downfall 1945 about the fall of Berlin, Crete: the Battle and the Resistance about the occupation of Crete and the resistance afterwards, and The Spanish Civil War telling the frightening tale of how awful a civil war can be. This book has recently been reworked with a lot of new material, and reissued under the name Battle for Spain: The Spanish Civil War 1936-1939.
