Jostein Gaarder

is probably the all-time bestselling Norwegian author abroad. His masterpiece is Sophie's World , an introduction to philosophy written as a novel. It is very popular both in Norway and in a number of other countries; it has been translated into a number of languages.

Gaarder is a professor of philosophy at the University of Oslo. He has written a number of books, many of them in popular form.
